Welcome to Bronx Eats

Greetings from Sedgwick Avenue!

So the purpose of the blog is summed up in its title: Bronx Eats. The Bronx is a wonderful and rapidly changing borough. It has a bad rep due to poverty and crime statistics, manipulated by a media that loves to scare local news-watchers with stories of shootings and drug dens. What is often missed are the wonderful things the Bronx has to offer: fresh produce at the Hunts Point Market, delicious Seafood on City Island, authentic Latin and Caribbean food and traditional Irish fare, to name a few. My favorite thing about the Bronx are my friends and neighbors-the sense of community I feel here every day. When I walk to the train in the mornings, strangers smile and tell me good morning. That never happened to me in Manhattan!

So welcome. Please read and leave me your comments-suggest places for me to visit and write about. This blog will be much better if other Bronxites and Bronx-lovers contribute their tips and favorite places. Don't hold back on places to avoid, either! My biggest hope is that this blog can help bolster good businesses and hold lackluster ones accountable-hopefully pushing those that fall short to better their offerings so we all have better eats to enjoy in the Bronx.
